AUCKLAND ROYAL EASTER SHOW OLIVE OIL AWARDS
SILVER AWARD for ITALIAN BLEND 2016
SILVER AWARD for SPECIAL BLEND 2016
GOLD AWARD for LECCINO 2018 - a very smooth tasty oil with a little pepper after taste.
SILVER AWARD for FRANTOIO 2018 - fruity and mild, perfect for salads
Here at Flaxbourne we currently grow the Tuscan and Spanish varieties of olives which suit the Flaxbourne area very well.
All our award winning oils are great for drizzling over vegetables, salads and meats, and used as dipping oils.
Our Italian Blend is a blend of Leccino and Frantoio, two wonderful Italian oils that when blended together make a really good all round oil with many uses. We also keep Leccino and Frantoio as single varieties.
Our Special Blend is made up of Leccino or Minerva, Picual and Manzanillo - a perfect dipping oil with apple tones and an interesting bitter note from the Manzanillo. The Leccino or Minerva ( a similar variety to Leccino but frost resistant) balances it beautifully.
Every year the flavours of the different varieties are slightly different, depending on the weather.
So you could say every year is a surprise.
Call in and enjoy a stroll around the grove and see how the pressing and bottling is done on the estate.
We also grow hazelnut trees and harvest the nuts in March. We supply 'Uncle Joes' in Blenheim.
